We work hard to maintain a reliable electric system, and our utility has several layers of protection in place to help reduce electrical disturbances. Because our distribution system is underground, it is less exposed to some of the damage risks faced by overhead systems. However, power quality issues can still occur when damage is caused due to freezing, shifting soils, and other environmental factors. In some cases, faulty or aging wiring inside a building can also contribute to electrical damage.

That’s why CEC recommends surge protection. Members can purchase a meter-mounted surge protector for $310, and we will provide the installation. It’s a simple, convenient way to add another layer of protection for the appliances and electronics you rely on every day.

CEC also offers other products to help members manage electric usage, including in-panel energy monitors and smart plugs that track usage at the outlet and can be programmed for added control.
